Dr Chris Ho: I’m Chris, a dentist at HCF Dental Centre in the Sydney CBD.
[TIP 1 LEAD BY EXAMPLE]
Dr Chris Ho: Lead by example. It is important to start a child’s routine early. Make it fun for the children and not like a chore.
[TIP 2 TAKE A SEAT]
Dr Chris Ho: Take a seat. All parents are to be seated when they try to brush their kids’ teeth because, one, they get a clearer view, two, better lighting and three, they’re at their level, so therefore they don’t feel as threatened.
[TIP 3 GO ELECTRIC]
Dr Chris Ho: Go electric. I recommend an electric toothbrush for children because one, they’ve all got a timer on it, which is important, and two, it makes it fun for them. Most kids’ toothbrushes will have cartoons or play music so therefore it keeps them engaged.
[TIP 4 CHOOSE THE RIGHT PASTE]
Dr Chris Ho: Avoid adult toothpaste. I recommend kids under the age of 6 to use a kid’s toothpaste. They taste a lot better, lower fluoride content, so it’s safer for them to ingest as well.
