Andreas and I played with many different things over the four days, and a big emphasis was on variation. Trying to make different types of turns. Every run was slightly different, and had the aim to get a distinctive look or response from the ski. We played with faster and slower movements, then blending them to the best of our ability. I am a big believer in being able to do all the turn shapes and types. I don’t think there is a right or wrong turn shape or speed, only what is necessary at the time, and the most important thing is they are all just as FUN to do. There is something said for having a round turn shape where you feel the ski push you across the hill to get deflection, but there is also another great sensation of flying down the hill and making faster movements to push your foot speed and balance. I think all these turn shapes have a time and a place, whether it is in a SL course, skiing down a bump run or skiing a steep pitch. These turns were on the Volkl FIS SL. We also did variations on the GS skis too. I only got film of one pitch doing short turns on my GS skis though. I will try and film the variations on them as well next time.
