A $26 million renovation project will restore the original function of University Hall as a student gathering space, classroon building, and active student center at Purdue. The project features a complete restoration of University Hall, the oldest standing building on the West Lafayette campus. This video offers a glimpse of the finished product, which will open in August 2025 as a new front door for the College of Liberal Arts and a crown jewel of the Purdue campus.

Opened in 1877 and partly funded through John Purdue’s founding donation, University Hall has been used for classrooms, was home to Purdue’s first library and a chapel and once served as the president’s office. The building was last remodeled in 1961.

The University Hall renovation is part of a larger, $46.6M project for the College of Liberal Arts that also includes significant work in Beering and Stanley Coulter halls. Design is by Workshop Architects and MSKTD. Construction manager for the project is Kettlehut Construction.
