Mirroring in the context of narcissism is a manipulative tactic used by narcissists to gain the trust and admiration of their targets. It involves mimicking or reflecting back the behaviours, interests, values, and even speech patterns of the person they are trying to impress. By doing this, narcissists create an illusion of similarity and shared understanding, making their targets feel understood and valued. This can quickly build a sense of intimacy and trust, which the narcissist then exploits to manipulate and control the relationship. Mirroring can be highly effective in the initial stages of relationships, especially romantic ones, but it is ultimately a deceitful strategy designed to serve the narcissist's needs.
