In this video source of data collection methods in research methodology are explained with different examples in each points.
Different primary data collection methods are explained with different examples in this video. In primary data three method are involved that are survey methods, observation methods and experiment methods of data collection.
In survey method four methods are involved in the video that are personal interview, telephone interview, mail interview and internet survey. A personal interview is a form of direct communication in which an interviewer asks respondents questions in face-to-face situation. In telephone interview interviewer contacts the interviewee on telephone. In mail interview questionnaires are mailed to potential respondents who in turn fill and return them at their convenience. In internet survey, a self-administered questionnaire posted in Web site.
In observation method five methods involved in the video that are direct vs indirect, disguised vs undisguised, structured vs unstructured, human vs mechanic, and participative vs non participative. Direct observation occurs when the observer is physically present and personally monitors what takes place. Indirect observation occurs when the recording is done by mechanical, photographic or electronic means.
Disguised Observation is used to obtain insights into customer behavior without letting the customers know that they are being observed. In Non disguised observation people will know that they are being observed for the purpose of research.
Structured Observation is used when research problem has been formulated precisely. Unstructured observation is free to observe whatever they think is relevant and important
In human observation an observer is physically present to record the events. In mechanical observation, mechanical devices record the phenomenon being observed.
Participative observation refers to an observation situation in which an observer gains firsthand knowledge. In Non participative observation, the observer has a passive role and does not come in direct contact with the respondents.
Participative observation refers to an observation situation in which an observer gains firsthand knowledge by being in or around the social setting that is being investigated. In Non participative observation, the observer has a passive role and does not come in direct contact with the respondents.
In experiment method two methods are involved that are field experiment and laboratory experiment. In field experiment, Experiments carried out in the field. Laboratory experiments are a research method by which researchers create controllable environments to test hypotheses.
I hope my video will help you out in understanding Sources of data collection in research / Method and tools of data collection (Part-II-Primary) in detail.
