Chiller load calculation determines the cooling capacity required for a chiller to maintain a desired temperature in a specific space or process. It essentially estimates the amount of heat the chiller needs to remove to achieve this.

The primary formula used for chiller load calculation is:

Q = (m * ΔT)/24
Where,
Q is the heat removal rate in Tons
m is the mass flow rate of the cooling fluid (e.g., gallons per minute)
ΔT is the temperature difference between the entering and leaving chilled water (degrees Fahrenheit)
