There are risks of storing water longterm for emergencies. Here is how I store mine so that any leaks are "fail-safe" and won't cause damage to drywall or floorboards, as happened in 2021 when the 1-gallon plastic water jugs I had stored began failing and leaking and creating a mess that required professional mold abatement.
