I saw this antenna tracker a few months ago and had to try it out. The only thing that I had to buy was the receiver for $39 and free shipping. Using my 3D printer and some scraps, I was able to knock up some 5-turn helical antennas to make this tracker a serious medium to long distance base station.

The only drawbacks that I can see is that you it only does 180 degrees, so you shouldn't fly too far behind yourself. And, sometimes you have to re-initialize/recalibrate with the quad 20-30 meters away before it will track properly.
