Stopping at a spot off Highway 1 South of Half Moon Bay to check out some cliffs and caves, I got more than I was bargaining for. Initially setting off with a partially discharged battery pack, I wanted to do a short reconnaissance flight before making a more composed cinematic FPV recording using the fully charged pack in my back pocket.
After lifting off for a look at the cliffs about 1KM away, I noticed a large gathering of seabirds being startled by the sound of the drone overhead. Quickly, I swung around to get some chase footage against the dramatic backdrop of cliffs, caves, and crashing water.
I quickly forgot about the limited flight I had planned and ascended to maintain "line of sight" around the point. This revealed a mesa top hayfield cut into concentric patterns and more breathtaking coastline beyond.
By the time I turned around, I noticed that the drone voltage was in the red around 19V. 21V is where I usually am landing. It was inevitable that the drone would fully lose power and fall from the sky in less than a minute.
