#georgelucas #starwars #josephcampbell When George Lucas made Star Wars he consulted Yoda. His Yoda to be precise. That man is Professor Joseph Campbell and his seminal 1949 book 'The Hero with a Thousand Faces' helped with the making of Star Wars.
For this book Professor Campbell immersed himself in art, literature and explored an array of stories to find out what makes legends, and us humans tick. For him, we don't seek meaning in life. We seek experiences. More specifically, “the experience of being alive, so that our life experiences on the pure physical plane will have resonances within our innermost being and reality, so that we actually feel the rapture of being alive.”

But here it is in a more basic form: “A hero ventures forth from the world of common day into a region of supernatural wonder: fabulous forces are there encountered and a decisive victory is won: the hero comes back from this mysterious adventure with the power to bestow boons on his fellow man.”
