The camera lens cover of a Samsung S5 breaks really easy. It is not recessed into the body. So, if you plop it down on the desk, it takes a direct hit, and it pulverizes into dust. (ok, really small shards).
Too bad Samsung didn't make this out of better stuff. No matter, temporary fix is quite easy until you can get it to a professional repair shop.
Replace it in 10 minutes with a poly-carbonate cover. Here is how.
If the camera does not focus then here is the next delicate thing to do. Note, since it won't focus, I figured I had nothing to lose by trying out this next fix. Yes, a bit scary, but heck, I had nothing to lose and everything to gain. And it worked for me. I make no guarantees about your outcome, but I offer this based on my experience. Worse case: you send the phone to Samsung for a few weeks and a lot of money.
Out of focus: this happened to me also.
The lens is looks like a sphere on a round disk. Push down on the round disk at the 12, the 4 and 8 o'clock positions ever so slightly. This is to help any glass shards under the disk to get displaced. Only do this once.
Look at the glass sphere again (the lens). It may be a bit off. You can see through the sphere into the black hole underneath. They need to be centered. With a very fine pin (or sewing needle) and a very steady hand, try to move it to the center of the round disk's hole. It is glued to round disk with some sticky glue and can be moved.. So, it may be off just the diameter of 1 hair.
Then, see if you made the focus better or worse. It took a week to get things to focus again. Also, take the camera out in daylight, that is when if focuses best and the servo motors move the most. Which helps push out the glass shards. The camera does not focus in low light very well, even when new. I hope this helps.
