With the increase in demand of environmental safety leads to the development of unconventional fuels. Though use of these unconventional fuels like hydrogen etc. heads to low emission, it is associated with shortcomings such as back fire, knocking, and NOx emission. This paper gives you a comprehensive overview on the phenomena of NOx formation, its effect on atmosphere, comparison between the NOx emission of hydrogen based IC engine and conventional fuel IC engine, its control techniques and their effectiveness. The future research direction on hydrogen sourced IC engines is also presented.
