US rapper Macklemore has cancelled a planned concert in the UAE on 4 October over the country’s support for the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Sudan. The rapper announced the decision on Saturday via a post on Instagram, saying he had faced pressure for campaigners urging him to cancel the show “in solidarity with the people of Sudan”.
In recent months, the rapper has spoken out for the Palestinian cause on numerous occasions and wrote the protest song Hind’s Hall in support of the pro-Palestine protests that were taking place on US university campuses.
