A male Stag beetle Lucanus cervus is shown climbing a tree in the Vendée, France. This insect was rescued from a busy path before being photographed and filmed as it pushed its way effortlessly through a spider's web. There was a strong Stag Beetle colony adjacent to a camp-site, and evidence of the odd flattened beetle on a daily basis, so this one was fortunate. No large males were seen, so perhaps the quality of their diet was not as good as it might have been.
