Movo SVH6-SY Top Handle
Movo SVH6-SY top handle is the most low profile top handle ever made for cameras or cages which can be connected via cold shoe. The Movo Photo SVH6-SY Video Stabilizer Top Handle also known as Sevenoak SK-H02 weighs 164 grams and can support cameras up to 4 kg. It is made from aluminium and features mounting points for cold shoe, 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16 threaded holes for attaching peripherals such as microphones, LED lights, magic arms, etc.
Since the Movo SVH6 top handle is very low profile, it is not suitable for use on cameras that don’t have a viewfinder/EVF as your hand will likely touch the lens when using it. So even though the low profile aspect of this top handle is desirable in a lot of scenarios, it is not suitable for cameras without a viewfinder.
The cold shoe receiver on this handle does not have an anti-slip button/lever to stop an attachment such as a microphone to slide out. So any attachment such as a microphone needs to be secured using its wheel screw for the cold shoe receiver.
The Movo SVH6 stabilising handle does not have silicon gel grip so the entire handle is made from the same aluminium material.
Movo Photo SVH6-SY Video Stabilizing Top Handle, and Cold Shoe Extender for Sony Alpha DSLR cameras is a tool to stabilize video shoots with Sony Alpha DSLR cameras with an included shoe adapter. The SVH6-SY features a built-in spirit level, cold shoe and eleven 1/4"-20 and six 3/8"-16 threaded holes.
A secondary function of the Movo SVH6 is to function as an cold shoe extender for cameras. This will allow a microphone to placed closer to the subject sound source therefore allowing the microphone pick up a slightly stronger and clearer audio. Also, since the microphone is placed further in front on the camera, the attached microphone to the SVH6 cold shoe extender will pick up less noise from behind which means less camera handling noise will be recorded. Hence the slightly weaker audio from camera operation and slightly stronger audio from the sound source will contribute to a better audio quality overall.
Two points I did not mention in the video
1. The cold shoe for attaching the handle to the camera has a 1/4"-20 threaded hole underneath it. This is visible at the 6:50 mark of the video. This means it can be attached to a camera cage using a different approach in addition to using the cold shoe itself.
2. The cold shoe for attaching the handle to the camera is not fully aligned with the handle. It sits at a marginally different angle. This might be evident in the video at 6:50.
