Exploring the Untouched Paradise of the Balabac Islands
Join me on an unforgettable adventure to the remote and pristine Balabac Islands, a hidden gem at the southern tip of Palawan, Philippines. Known for their stunning coral reefs visible even from space, turquoise blue waters, and powdery white sand beaches, these islands are the epitome of untouched beauty.
In this video:
The Journey: We start with an early morning pickup in Puerto Princesa, embarking on a 6-hour van ride through scenic landscapes of rice fields, mountains, and grazing buffalo. Brace yourself for a bumpy ride with fast drivers—it’s all part of the adventure! After handling some paperwork at the southern harbor, we set sail on a small fishing boat to our first destinations.
Canimeran Island: Our first stop is this tiny but breathtaking island, adorned with lush coconut trees and surrounded by crystal-clear waters. The sand here is so fine it feels like flour. We enjoy a delicious lunch prepared by our tour guides and soak in the tropical paradise.
Patawan Island/Dolphin Island: Another jewel in the Balabac archipelago, Patawan offers pristine beaches and opportunities for snorkeling and swimming. The island is wild and untouched, making it the perfect place to connect with nature.
Punta Sebaring Camp: We settle into our beachfront camp on Bugsuk Island, choosing between cozy tipi huts or tents right on the sand. With an amazing team of locals cooking our meals and no internet to distract us, we fully immerse ourselves in the island life.
Onok Island (Day 2 Highlight): Arguably the most stunning spot in Balabac, Onok Island captivates with its expansive sandbars, vibrant coral reefs, and abundant marine life. We snorkel alongside turtles and marvel at giant clams—truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Mansalangan Sandbar/Balabac Sandbar & Candaraman Island (Day 3): Witness the spectacle of starfish that dot the sandbar during low tide and explore more incredible snorkeling spots teeming with colourful fish and coral.
Local Life & Conservation: Learn about the local fishing communities, their sustainable seaweed farming practices, and the efforts to keep Balabac unspoiled. The presence of the military ensures safety due to the islands' proximity to international borders.
Travel Tips:
Be Prepared: The journey is rough but rewarding. Expect bumpy rides and bring motion sickness remedies if needed.
Waterproof Essentials: Pack waterproof bags for your valuables and electronics during boat transfers.
Stay Comfortable: Wear swimwear daily and consider upgrading to a tipi hut for added comfort and access to charging outlets.
Disconnect to Reconnect: There's no internet at the camp—embrace the digital detox and enjoy the natural beauty around you.
