"Essential Motown DEEP Cuts
If you're a fan of "The Donna Reed Show", you'll be interested in discovering Paul Petersen spent some time at Motown. He had toured with many of Motown's artists and when the opportunity arose, Motown signed him to the label. He recorded some excellent songs, but perhaps because there were so many other already-established artists at Motown or whatever the reason, the association didn't relate to chart action.
However, a song's worth isn't measured strictly by its success on the charts. There have been many songs that went high on Billboard but were quickly forgotten. Then you have the songs that seem to gain a life all their own as the years go by. Learning that Paul recorded at Motown as a surprise for me. The bigger surprise is how good the material was. I would wage a bet that Paul's Motown output has even more fans today than when it was originally recorded.
Now that's the mark of a great song.
