British Heart Foundation (BHF) celebrated its 6th annual Heart Hero Awards on Wednesday 6 December 2023 at Glaziers Hall in London.
The annual awards celebrate the incredible supporters who go above and beyond for BHF, including the young fundraisers, advocates and heart patients aged 12 and under who have done amazing things in support of BHF’s lifesaving work.
Annabelle from Scotland was born in January 2020 at only 4lbs and was diagnosed with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome, a set of congenital abnormalities on the left side of the heart.
Her diagnosis was made worse as Annabelle’s first 7 months were spent in hospital during the Covid-19 pandemic.
To get her to the first stage of open-heart surgery that her condition requires, Annabelle has had to endure several lifesaving operations so far.
Although Annabelle will require more surgeries and procedures sometime before she is 5 years old, she is super proud of her scars and is a true Young Heart Hero.
