"What are 'Grid' jingles?
I'm going to cite "The Jingle Book" by Ken R. for this one:
"According to [former PAMS engineer Jon] Wolfert, in 1968, Bill Meeks, president of PAMS of Dallas, decided he was going to top his competitors. If the other studios had eight tracks on which to record, Meeks wanted 10."
_"PAMS writer/arranger/singer Marvin Shaw used this format to realize his concept of a "grid" package of jingles. These packages involved the vocal group singing the station call letters on two tracks and various slogans and feature intros on the other tracks.
With careful mixing and cross-facing of these layers of voices, PAMS could deliver a large and flexible group of cuts in which the same call letters would be joined with many other lyric lines."_
So a station would get a Grid package featuring various short music beds, slogans like "wonderful," "more music," or whatever a station wanted, various sings of the station's call letters. The radio station's production room could pretty much create a ton of cut-and-paste jingles of all kinds. The variations were endless.
