Benwenerup Cultural Corridor - Traditional custodians bringing the land and waterways back to health
We produced this very special short film for the Esperance Tjaltjraak Native Title Aboriginal Corporation to help them tell the story of how they're striving to restore the health of their sacred waterway - the Lort River - which flows into Stokes Inlet, traditionally known as Benwenerup.
This very spiritual story follows a songline that stretches from Peak Charles, 170km north west of Esperance, down to the coast, and traces the footsteps of the Wudjari Nyungar people who have walked these pathways for many thousands of years.
It was an absolute privilege to spend time with the Elders and Traditional Custodians whose ancestors walked this songline, to witness their profound connection with it, and to film the Tjaltjraak Rangers monitoring and carrying out restoration projects to conserve it for future generations.
