On December 2nd, 2021, the USCGC Mackinaw pulled up to Navy Pier in Chicago to offload 1200 Christmas trees for families in downtown Chicago. This continued a tradition well over 100 years old. While this is a time of cheer and charity, back on the 23rd of November, 1912, this tradition was marred by tragedy, as one of the original Christmas tree ships went down with all hands.
